About

Reels for Rights uses the power of media arts to expand and strengthen the fight for human rights in the United States. We seek to foster and deepen relationships between grassroots organizers, filmmakers, media artists, and others who work to ensure that our economic and social rights – namely, our fundamental human needs – are secured for all. Reels for Rights brings together these critical constituencies to create and distribute powerful media that fuel powerful movements for social change.

Reels for Rights emerged as a result of:

1. The urgency arising from grassroots movements to increase the production and effective distribution of quality media about, and driven by, the emerging struggles of poor and disenfranchised communities organizing to attain their economic and social rights, with the aim of strengthening and uniting our collective struggles; and

2. The strong desire of media makers to generate compelling media embedded in U.S. human rights movements that can win hearts & minds and change policies & practices.
